Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina was a disastrous hurricane. People today, a whole year after this hurricane, are still trying to recover. Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest hurricanes in US history. It was a category 3 hurricane. This hurricane occurred in the Gulf Coast. The states Louisana and Mississippi were devistated by this hurricane, by August 31, 2005 80% of the cities there were under water, with parts 20 feet deep. After the event, 3 kids in 5th grade, last year, came to our school while their homes and schools were being rebuilt after the disaster. My friends and I, as well as many others in my grade, became friends with the people who came. I think that this is a good connection with this disaster. Hurricane Katrina may have taken a short time to happen, but recovery is a long process. - Ellie

9/11

September Eleventh was not a natural disaster, but was mentioned in this book9_11.jpg because Shannon and Cody live in New York. In the book, Cody had actually saw the World Trade Center fall, and his friend's father had worked there and died when they fell. Therefore, it had impacted him greatly and he became obsessed with disasters. 9/11 was a very tragic event, and many people still are greatly in shock of this incident.
Thousands of people died in 9/11 and the event had a huge impacted on the country and its citizens. One reason is because in the attacked buildings people did not have enough time to get out. Some of my relatives lived in New York at that time, which is one reason why it impacted my family. Other hijacked planes, on the same day crashed into the Pentagon and in a field in Pennsylvania. One strange coincedence was that the attacked happened on 9/11 and the number you dial to call the police is 911. The 9/11 attack influenced many people and will be remembered for years to come. - Rachel

Tsunami

On December 26, 2004 a tsunami struck most of Indonesia and its surrounding islands. It killed about 155,000 people were killed and almost a million left homeless. This might have been the deadlist tsunami in history. The tsunami formed from 9.0 earthquake under the Indian ocean. Many people were drowned in thier home and the beaches. One third of the people killed were children. You might think a tsunami comes in and goes ot like that, this is not the case many sicknesses such as cholerea and diphteria. This is was a very sad event and we hoope it will never happen again.
